Mistérios Negros is a 4-hour hike in the interior of Terceira Island, in a protected area of the Terceira Island Nature Park. It follows a 5 km trail of outstanding natural beauty, with lakes, Japanese cedar forests and endemic vegetation. Before setting off, admire the small Lagoa do Negro; enjoy a peaceful setting that leaves you feeling well; discover the endemic plants along the trail: Azores holly (Ilex perado azorica), Azorean blueberry (Vaccinium cylindraceum), heather (Erica azorica), Azores juniper (Juniperus brevifolia) and others; pass between volcanic domes formed by lava flows; and climb to the top of a hill to look into the crater of a volcano. The trail is of moderate to hard difficulty, flat in some sections, with a maximum elevation gain of 100 m and a length of roughly 5 km.
