Mistérios Negros and Algar do Carvão

Lakes and Volcanoes combines two activities (a hike and a volcanology-focused tour) into a full day (8 hours), with lunch included. In the morning, a hike along the Mistérios Negros trail: a 5 km trail of outstanding natural beauty, with lakes, Japanese cedar forests, endemic vegetation (Erica azorica) and volcanic scenery. The hike is of moderate difficulty, with a maximum elevation gain of around 100 m, on terrain that is uneven in places. Lunch (drinks included) follows at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, a tour by minibus through the craters, volcanoes and natural monuments of Terceira Island. Visit the inside of an empty volcano (Algar do Carvão), walk through the Furnas do Enxofre fumarole field, explore the Gruta do Natal lava tube and stroll by the natural swimming pools in the parish of Biscoitos.
